Two cliché poems: one new & one old.

I was happy today. I started coming up with this while doing my laundry & then came upstairs to scribble it down. Much more optimistic than usual.

I fall quickly and quietly
For boys with pleasant smiles
And funny laughs-
I fall to pieces
Put back together only
By warm eyes,
Brimming with amusement.
I'm only best taken
Not seriously:
Wide grins and gentle words;
If taken's what they want.
Viktor Frankl said-
(In words more eloquent
Than I could manage)
That one can survive anything
With love, love of life and
Humor in your eyes.
So, smiles, laughs, eyes:
Make me grin,
Make me live love life.

I wrote this one morning between Holocaust class and Oceans lab while sitting in the Earth & Marine Sciences café. Dated February 2nd.

Whispered laughs in late hours
Stir my memory
White sugar stirred black coffee
Stark constrast in light vs. dark
Surprising how dark the day is
Light that makes me squint, see black
The night is when the stars come out
Pale light that illuminates
Blue eyes and crinkled, laughing lips
Shadow-mask deep scars
Throw darkness on colorful bruises.
I wear the darkness
Carry it with me during day
The blanket I wrap myself in
And drag on the floor
Clinging like a child to its frayed edges
I wear the night
Because the night wears me
Friction, rubbing--dulling my edges
Blurring my features
Wearing me away.
I wear the night
Because it suits me better,
Clothes more rich than
The washed-out textures
of too-sunny days.
I wear the night
Because black is my favorite color
And that seems reason enough.
I wear the night
Because I've codemned myself to it-
A woman who crawls in daylight
Grovels at the sight of the sun
Worshipping something I can't have
Night is the only time
I can walking standing upright
Like the human I somtimes am.
